The free thyroid discovery call is a 15-minute phone call with our team — no cost, no obligation, no pressure. You tell us what's been going on, we tell you how we would approach your case, and you decide whether root-cause thyroid care is right for you. Nothing is scheduled, sold, or committed until you say so.
What Is the Thyroid Discovery Call?
It's a real conversation with a real person at Wilmington Functional Medicine, by phone, at no charge. Fifteen minutes. No exam, no intake paperwork, and no obligation to become a patient.
What it is not: a sales pitch or a mini-visit. We won't diagnose anything on the call, and we won't pretend to. What we can do is hear your story, tell you honestly whether our approach fits your situation, and show you what root-cause testing would actually look for in a case like yours.
What Happens on the Call? Step by Step
- You tell your story. What's been going on, how long it's been going on, and what you've already tried. This takes most of the call, because the timeline matters more than people expect.
- We ask a few targeted questions. When symptoms started, what changed around that time — illness, pregnancy, a period of heavy stress — and what testing you've had. Finding out your last panel was TSH-only is one of the most useful things we learn.
- We explain what we'd look at. For most thyroid cases that means a complete thyroid panel with antibodies, free T3, and reverse T3 — plus adrenal, gut, or food sensitivity testing if your story points that way.
- We talk fit and next steps. If we're the right practice for your case, we outline what working together involves. If we're not, we tell you that too — and point you toward what we'd do in your position.
Who Should Book the Call?
The call is for anyone whose thyroid story has stalled out. That includes people who:
- Have been told their labs are normal but still feel terrible every day. Here's why thyroid symptoms can come with normal labs.
- Have a Hashimoto's or hypothyroidism diagnosis but still don't feel like themselves — including people whose thyroid medication changed their numbers but not how they feel.
- Wonder whether stress, diet, gut problems, or a past illness is driving the whole thing.
- Have thyroid antibodies or a thyroid nodule being "watched" and want to know what can actually be done now.
You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or recent lab work to book. If any bullet above sounds like your last year, the call is for you.
Fifteen minutes. Zero cost. Find out what's been missed.
Book Free Discovery CallWhat Should I Have Ready?
Nothing is required, but three things make the call more useful. First, a rough timeline — when symptoms started and what was happening in your life then. Second, any recent lab results, even partial ones. Third, your top three symptoms, in order of how much they bother you.
If you've been on thyroid medication, note the name and dose. If you've tried elimination diets or supplements, note what changed. Small details like these are often where the real answer hides.
What Happens After the Call?
Whatever you want to happen. There's no follow-up sequence, no obligation, and no pressure — the call is genuinely the end of it unless you decide otherwise.
If you choose to move forward, the next step is a full intake and the testing your case calls for. We explain what each test is for and what care involves before you commit to anything, costs included. If you'd rather think it over, read our thyroid FAQ first — it answers most of what comes up on these calls.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the discovery call really free?
Yes — completely free, with no card, no deposit, and no obligation. The call exists because fit matters on both sides. We want to hear your case before anything is recommended, and you deserve to understand the approach before committing time or money to it.
Do I need lab work before the call?
No. Bring what you have, even if it's a single TSH result from three years ago. If your testing has only ever checked TSH, that tells us a lot — it means the antibody, free T3, free T4, and reverse T3 pieces have never been looked at.
Do you take insurance, and what does care cost?
The discovery call is free, and we go over what care involves — testing and plan — clearly before you commit to anything. Insurance coverage varies by plan and by service, so we'll answer cost questions directly on the call rather than leave you guessing. No surprises after the fact.
Can I book if I don't live in Wilmington?
Yes. We see patients from Leland, Hampstead, Jacksonville, Pender County, and across coastal NC, and many appointments can be handled by phone or telehealth anywhere in North Carolina. The discovery call itself is always by phone, so where you live doesn't limit the first conversation.
Is the call with one of the doctors?
The call is with our team, who know the practice's approach inside and out and can tell you exactly how a case like yours would be handled. Your intake and testing are then led by Dr. Hilary Rutledge or Dr. Mathew Bradshaw.
What if I'm not sure my problem is my thyroid?
Then the call is especially worth making. Fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, and hair loss get labeled "thyroid" or "stress" by default, but the driver can be adrenal, gut, nutrient, or immune-related. Telling your story out loud is often the fastest way to see which thread to pull first.
Your next step takes fifteen minutes. Book the call and stop guessing.
